The 6th Aontas Adult Learners Festival ran from February 20 to 24 and showcased all that is positive about Adult Education today.

Among the many events organised through South Tipperary VEC was a ‘Celebration of Learning’ which took place on Tuesday, February 21, and was organised by the learners attending the BTEI (Back to Education Initiative) FETAC Level 3 General Learning Programme in the Ormonde Centre in Clonmel.

The event was held to showcase some of the topics they have covered during the programme such as working with numbers, IT skills, communications and cookery.

The learners themselves summed up their own feelings on returning to education...

‘Some adults never had much confidence in school so they fell behind with their spelling and reading. But coming back to education has really helped us in many ways.’

‘Many people felt they did not get a good education in the past. But help is out there we found it! So can you!’

‘The Adult Education scene nowadays is totally different from the time we were attending school. Each student is treated in a respectful and friendly way and all matters are confidential you can overcome your fears if you really put your mind to it. I did!”

The learners are to be congratulated for their great efforts in providing a wonderful celebration of learning!
