The family of a well known Clonmel swimming coach have raised €4,300 in fundraising efforts in his memory to go towards the Irish Heart Foundation.
Included was a sky five by his son.
Liam Clooney, a well known local, Munster and national swimming coach passed away unexpectedly in June 2011 after suffering heart failure.
His widow Shirley and two children Adam and Natalie then decided to remember him in a most practical way.
Adam made his contribution with a sky dive on the first anniversary of Liam’s deth while Shirley and Natalie took part in the Cork Mini marathon.
Shirley said - “I originally hoped we would raise around €1,000 in sponsorship for walking the Cork Mini Marathon but we were amazed by the support shown by individuals and companies in the Clonmel area”. Some of the most generous donations came from Clonmel Swimming Club, Butler’s Sports Bar, James Whelan Butchers and Laura Kavanagh.
