Fethard folk walk on fire for charity

On Saturday last, July 21, many brave volunteers decided to walk over hot coals in aid of The Happy Africa Foundation at Fethard Youth Centre. A large family crowd gathered to watch the rare event and also enjoyed the barbecue, face painting and dance music provided by a DJ in the youth centre.

After a safety seminar, the walkers, Matt Fitzgerald, Adam O’Donnell, Kyle O’Donnell, Samantha O’Herlihy, Siobhan Cotter, Jarleth ‘Foxy’ Connolly, Joe Whelton, Gary Walsh, Frankie O’Donovan, Paddy Cooney, Matt Nolan, Tom Halpin, Marie Kelly, Kevin Whyte and Paul Ryan, braved temperatures of 1500-1700 Degrees Fahrenheit to complete the walk which was approx 12 feet long, all the while being cheered on by the crowd. Well done guys!

This was certainly a unique event for the town and the support of the people who took the time to participate in the event was greatly appreciated. For more information see the Facebook page or visit fire-walk.com
