90 year old woman robbed

Criminals looking for directions stole from 90 year-old woman.

Three criminals called to the home of a 90 year-old Cahir woman last Sunday afternoon on the pretext of seeking directions, and stole money and jewellery from the house.

A woman and two men called to the house at Mountain Rd., Cahir between 3.30pm and 4.15pm that day looking for directions and one also asked for a drink of water.

The elderly woman let the three into her home and the cash and jewellery were stolen while one of the gang talked to the pensioner and distracted her.

Sgt. Brendan Franklin of Cahir Garda Station said some of the stolen items were found discarded some distance from the house that evening and the following day.

He appealed to anyone who saw suspicious activity in the Mountain View area last Sunday to contact Cahir Garda Station at (052) 7441222.

And he urged elderly people to be wary of letting strangers into their homes and to report any suspicious incidents to the Gardai.
