Ashley Keane’s winner sends Wilderness Rovers through to last 32

Wilderness Rovers 1 – 0 Brayzil (Wicklow)

The supporters of Wilderness Rovers witnessed a fairytale on Sunday afternoon as their team continued on in the FAI Cup after a fantastic with against the boys from Brayzil.

Playing in the open draw for the first time, Wilderness Rovers showed that they are more than capable of mixing it with teams from outside Tipperary but they had to rely on goalkeeper James Crotty to keep them in the game as early as the fourth minute, when he pulled off a wonderful save from an opposition player.

This settled the Clonmel team however, and they took the lead on 16 minutes, when Ashley Keane hit a pile driver of a free kick directly to the net with the Brayzil keeper rooted to the spot.

The locals went wild, and after that Rovers comfortably held on until half time with their lead intact.

They were expecting some sort of response though, and they got it two minutes into the second period, when once again they had Crotty to thank for another fine save.

It was to be the visitors best chance of the half though, and with 20 minutes left, Wilderness’ Youceff Brahimi was desperately unlucky to see a fine effort come back of the crossbar for what would have been a clinching goal.

Thankfully it wasn’t needed in the end, and Wilderness Rovers got their historic win, which will make the Christmas festivities seem all the sweeter.

The Boys from Brayzil had to head back home to Wicklow empty handed while the Wilderness Rovers Boys celebrated their passage into the last 32 of the FAI Junior Cup and hopefully more celebrations ahead.
