One of Clonmel’s leading newsagents has been named the Newsagent of the Year for 2014.

Bergin’s Food Fair – located in Parnell Street – has been serving the consumers of Clonmel for more than 25 years.

Shop owner Seamus Bergin said he was delighted to claim the award.

He commented: “I am thrilled for the shop and that my staff have been recognised by the local press.”

He went on to say “we are always trying to improve the shopping experience for our customers”.

The Nationalist asked our readers to nominate their favourite newsagent and we got a huge response.

In order to find the top newsagent of the year each nominated newsagent was judged on Sales Profile, In-store promotions and Commitment to the community.

Food Fair, which started out as a traditional paper shop and has evolved over the years into a convenience store, now boasts its own Home Bakery which provides fresh breads, tarts and pastries baked daily and now also have a good selection of wines and many other beverages.

The shop’s coffee is a personal favourite among many, especially in the mornings.

Several customers have struck it lucky playing Lotto at Bergin’s over the years winning cash prizes with a few notable big wins in the Lottery.

A new service called Post Point now enables customers to pay their Utility Bills and Toll Charges as well as being able to avail of many other household services while shopping.

Food Fair is noted for stocking a wide range of local and national newspapers, magazines and books.

The shop which originated primarily as newsagents has a policy of remaining true to this area in spite of the many changes which have taken place in the shop.

Food Fair will retain any individual request for specially required papers or magazines of interest as part of its service.

The shop is therefore proud that its commitment to this core practice has been honoured to receive this award as a newsagent in the county.

Mr Bergin added that all this is mainly down to the dedication of his hardworking staff, some of whom have been working there for many years.

Bergin’s Food Fair is open from seven o’ clock every morning till nine o’ clock every night.

Seamus and his staff are most appreciative of the great support in receiving this award afforded by ‘The Nationalist’ and he would like to thank all of his customers who have supported him over the years.
