By now businesses in Cahir will have received letters from The Promoting Cahir Group as they start the unenviable task of fundraising for the Christmas lights.

By the time you read this the Christmas Lights will have been, or are being erected in Cahir because local traders recognise the importance of the lights not only to business in town but also to residents’ morale during the Christmas festive season.

This year the Promoting Cahir group are also organising an outside broadcast from Tipp FM and a Christmas Carol Event with a Shop Local Draw to try to increase Christmas trade locally and also a €5 Friday on the same day. Shops participating will display posters which will be out this week with more details on all planned events.

Tipp FM will be in town on December 20, from 11am to 1pm, and the Christmas Carol Event will take place that evening between 6pm and 9pm, bringing a real festive atmosphere to the town centre.

This year the Shop Local Draw prize fund will include €1000 in local shop vouchers.

As the traders now must begin the fundraising for the erection, running costs and removal of the Christmas lights, they once more ask your assistance and humbly request that traders contribute towards this worthy cause.

“We simply cannot do this without your help,” says chairman of the Promoting Cahir Group, Patrick O’Donovan.

A representative of the group, Maria Taylor, will call in to businesses over the next couple of weeks to collect contributions or alternatively donations can be posted or dropped in to The Heritage in the Square, Cahir. Please note that cheques can be made out to The Promoting Cahir Group and receipts will be issued to all who contribute and sponsors will be acknowledged. “Please show your support for your town and this cause and give generously. Thank you.” Patrick O’Donovan, Chairman of The Promoting Cahir Group.
