Cllrs clash over Housing Grant

Cllr Martin Browne is challenging the views of Cllr Eoghan Lawrence which appeared in The Nationalist last week in relation to the housing adaption grant.

Cllr. Browne disagrees that this is going to help persons stay in their own homes, claiming the complete opposite will happen, pointing out the age increase, from 60 to 66, and the cut in the grant from €10,000 to €8,000. There is also a reduction in the income band for the grant and the recipients will now have to contribute 5% of the cost themselves. This is going to force families who can not afford this work to look for nursing homes for loved ones because they will be unable to stay in the family home, said Cllr. Browne.
