6th Year Avicii Group students Thea Lonergan, Amy O'Neill and Rachel O' Dwyer performing in Loreto's Got Talent.

The theme for this year’s presentation of Loreto’s Got Talent, held at the school last month, was the movie Grease.

There were 13 acts and all were excellent and comparable in terms of talent and entertainment.

As usual the show was presented by the Sixth Years and a very talented and entertaining group included Elizabeth Clutterbuck, Michaela Gleeson, Katie Hickey, Niamh Murphy, Sarah Everard, Niamh Whelan, Muireann Joyce-Hearne, Sinead Pollard and Charlotte Keane. The show could not have happened without the backstage crew of Eimear Columby, Riona Coyne, Chloe Shaw, Sarah O’Sullivan and Soufana Al Fathil.

Yvonne Murphy (1st Year) mesmerised the packed hall with Time to Say Goodbye, a performance that helped her to claim first prize.

While the judges - Ms Mullan, Mrs Geoghegan, Ms Dempsey and one pupil from each year - carefully deliberated over their choice of winners, the audience was treated to a special modern music and song routine, entitled the Mary Ward Rap, by Mrs Boyd’s Sixth Year Class.

This was an upbeat and modern tribute to the Loreto founder, Mary Ward.

When the results were announced Mimi Lane, who played and sang I Have Nothing finished in second place while the 5th Year dance group, Flying Emmo and 6th Year groups shared third place.

A special word of thanks is extended to Mrs Geoghegan and Ms Mullan in the Music Department for organising the event and to the many students who helped out.
