Clonmel Borough Council staff praised after flood

The outdoor staff of Clonmel Borough Council have been praised for their role in ensuring the town’s defence system stood up to its first big test.

Town Engineer Jonathan Cooney said the council staff, who were responsible for erecting the demountable barriers along the banks of the river and other vital tasks, worked tirelessly to ensure the town was protected.

“They were available day and night while the town was under threat. It was a big effort by everybody and it paid off in the end,” he said.

Clonmel Businessman Fulvio Bonfiglio said the council staff deserved tremendous praise for the maner in which they carried out their duties and it was greatly appreciated by town centre business owners.
