Independent TD Mattie McGrath has called on all members of the public to come along and offer their support for the launch of a Charity Soccer Match between local politicians and the young people of the Clonmel Garda Youth Diversion Project on Monday, December 16 at 6pm in the Clonmel Celtic Grounds.
Deputy McGrath was speaking after organising the Charity Match on foot of enthusiastic requests from the young people themselves:
“The match which is set for early in the New Year is sure to be a great occasion. When I met with the group initially after they visited with me in Leinster House I was struck by how motivated they were and how the efforts of the Garda Youth Diversion Project are reaping very real rewards in the lives of those who take part. It was a privilege then to try and organise this match for them and I am delighted that we have met with a great response from all involved including the local politicians!
“I think it is vitally important that occasions like these place and that those who are often on the margins can see that many local representatives are people who genuinely have their interests at heart. Above all this though I am sure we will have great craic and it should be an interesting sight for our local media to see us display our skills!
I am also delighted that Clonmel Gardaí have responded with enthusiasm to the project. The young people themselves have told me they are really looking forward to the match and so I hope that as many people as possible can come along on the 16th for the Launch at the Clonmel Celtic Grounds,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
