Tragedy struck a Clonmel family this week when a young man was killed in a road traffic accident.
Daniel (Dano) Conroy from Auburn Square died when the car in which he was travelling was involved in a single vehicle accident at Rathronan, a couple of miles outside the town on the Fethard Road, at approximately 1.20am on Tuesday morning.
28 year-old Dano Conroy was the front seat passenger in the black Honda Accord that went out of control and struck a ditch.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardai said that the road was wet at the time but driving conditions weren’t adverse.
The driver, a 20 year-old man, was taken by ambulance to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel with non-life threatening injuries. A unit of the local fire brigade also attended the scene.
The road was subsequently closed to facilitate a Garda Forensic Collision Examination and local diversions were put in place.
Dano Conroy, who was single, was well-known and popular in the town. He was the son of Niamh and John Conroy. The family moved to Clonmel from Dublin some years ago.
He is also survived by his sisters Aoife and Amy and extended family, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the accident. They want to hear from anyone who may have been in the area between 1am and 1.30am on Tuesday morning or who may have noticed the car in the town earlier on St. Patrick’s night to contact them at the Clonmel station on 052-6177640 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666 111.
