Faugheen anti-pylon protest for Dáil on April 15

Faugheen Against Pylons and the Suir Valley Action Group are hosting an information meeting next week to discuss future measures in their campaign to stop the Eirgrid Grid Link powerline.

The meeting will take place in the Clubhouse in Faugheen on Monday, April 7 at 7.45pm.

Members of both actions groups are planning to take part in a demonstration of community groups opposed to the controversial power line to the Dáil in Dublin on Tuesday morning, April 15.

A bus transporting people to the protest will leave from Faugheen that morning. For more information contact (087) 121 3839.

“The people of Faugheen and the surrounding areas of the Suir Valley are continuing their fight against Eirgrid’s proposal to erect pylons carrying high voltage power lines across the countryside and skirting towns in the region,” said Pete Smith of the Faugheen Against Pylons Group.

“While the Government has set up an independent inquiry into the alternatives, and Eirgrid is duty bound to consider each and every one of the 35,000 submissions they received from concerned groups and individuals, there is still a very real possibility that this proposal could be given the green light.

“The fight against pylons is far from over,” he declared.

A table quiz will take place in Robinson’s Bar, Kilsheelan this Friday, April 4 at 9pm to raise funds for the Suir Valley Action Group so that it can continue its campaign work. Entry costs €20 per table of four.
