Grangemockler in shock over death of popular garage owner

The village of Grangemockler has been plunged into mourning following the death of a local garage owner on Tuesday morning.

52 year-old Micheal McGrath, the owner of The Big Sycamore garage, died in a workplace accident that occurred shortly after 10am while he was working on a customer’s car.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn, son Wayne, parents Michael and Kathleen, brothers and sister. Another son, Michael, died from meningitis some years ago. The family live in a house beside the garage.

“The whole area is in shock, it’s like a knife gone through the parish”, said local Councillor Joe Brennan. “You couldn’t meet a nicer fellow, he was a great neighbour”. Gardai in Carrick-on-Suir said that the Health and Safety Authority is investigating the accident.
