The Tipperary Town Daffodil Committee were thrilled to hand over a cheque to the Irish Cancer Society for the largest amount ever raised on Daffodil day since the committee formed twenty-seven years ago.

The huge amount of €19,760 was collected in Tipperary Town on March 28, from selling daffodils, merchandise and generous donations from the Tipperary citizens.

Siobhan O’Dwyer joined as a volunteer twenty-four years ago and was overwhelmed with this year’s response in Tipperary Town.

“This is the best year in our history. It’s a lot of work but when the day comes right it works so well and this year the weather was fabulous and the introduction of merchandise helped boost the money.”

Daffodil Day is the biggest fundraiser of the Irish Cancer Society with thousands of volunteers all around the country working hard to raise money for the Society’s free cancer services and research.

Based in the Tipperary Community Services centre the Tipperary Town Daffodil committee, with the help of other organizations including the Tipperary Active Retirement Association and students from secondary schools went out in force with daffodils and donation buckets to collect funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

Eileen Kearney, the Irish Cancer Society Munster Community Fundraiser came to Tipperary last week to collect the cheque at the Community Services centre.

“We are absolutely delighted… it is a fantastic amount of money to be raised here in Tipperary town and all the money will be going back into our services which will of course benefit people here in Tipperary affected by cancer. We’re very grateful to the Tipperary Town Daffodil committee for the amount of work they put into the day. I can only say on behalf of the Irish Cancer Society, thank you to everybody who was involved and donated money.”
