Improving quality of life for older people
A new business group has started in Tipperary whose aim is to improve the quality of life of older people and people with disabilities, whatever their age.
Six Tipperary companies and services have come together to share a platform of products and services that improve people’s safety and happiness.
The new business group was founded in Cashel and is called the “Enable Independence Group.”
The Group is launching itself during Positive Ageing Week, as the aim of all six Tipperary companies is to support independent living.
The six companies offer different products and services that help people stay independent in their own homes. The businesses include ‘Adapted Living’ who supply and fit stair lifts, and provide products such as recliners and mobility products; ‘HideAwayZ’ who supply products such as clothes lines and planterboxes that are accessible for people using a wheelchair, ‘Home Instead Senior Care’ who provide care in the home services such as meal preparation, personal care or overnight care, ‘Task Community Care’ who provide personal alarms and telecare services, ‘Tipptoes’ who provide footcare and footwear and the proper biomechanical fitting of footwear, hosiery, compression products and armcare services and finally ‘Wrapsies’ who provide practical, comfortable dignitywear as an alternative to towels.
Positive Ageing Week is a national campaign run by Age Action from Friday, September 27 to Saturday October 5. Part of this campaign is to encourage people to think of how they would adapt and stay well as they age, or if they have an accident.
Most of us have never thought of what would happen in the event of a hospital stay, or a need to use a wheelchair. People over the age of 65 should think about how they could live at home, for example, if they couldn’t use the stairs or were not able to drive their car. The time to put in a downstairs bathroom is when you’re healthy, because this takes time, not when you are about to be discharged from hospital after breaking a hip.
