Just two drink-driving arrests in Clonmel over Easter

More than 40 drink driving checkpoints were conducted by gardai in the Clonmel Garda District over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of drink driving arising from the operation that began last Thursday and ended yesterday (Tuesday) morning.

The Mandatory Alcohol Testing checkpoints were operated by gardai throughout the Clonmel District that includes Carrick-on-Suir, Fethard and surrounding rural areas as well as Clonmel and its hinterland.

A spokesman for Clonmel Garda Station said the low number of arrests arising from such a large number of checkpoints showed that most motorists were abiding by the law and not driving after they consumed alcohol.
