US diplomat and chair of the Northern Ireland peace talks Dr Richard Haass who will receive the Tipperary Peace Award on Monday next.

American diplomat and former Northern Ireland Talks Chair, Dr. Richard Haass, will receive the 2013 Tipperary International Peace Award at a ceremony at Ballykisteen Hotel and Golf Resort on Monday next, June 23.

Dr. Haass will make the trip to Tipperary in the company of his wife, son and daughter.

Dr. Haass will receive the award for playing a very prominent and significant role in assisting the peace process in Northern Ireland.

Even though the parties did not reach an agreement, the blueprint left by Dr Haass for addressing the issues into the future represented considerable progress.

Haass will follow in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela, former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, former President Mary McAleese, and schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai who made headlines when she came to Tipperary to collect her prize last August.

On the evening of the award ceremony the public will have an unique opportunity to meet Dr. Haass at a special event being organised by Tipperary Peace Convention titled “An evening with Richard Haass”.

The event will feature Dr Haass in conversation with Martin Quinn at Ballykisteen Hotel. Dr. Hass will speak about his life and career and about the stalled Northern Ireland Talks.

He will also take questions from the audience.

Tea/Coffee on arrival at 7.30pm and music by members of the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland.

This is a free event. No admittance charge. Enquiries to: 062-33990.
