The legacy of one little girl will help another little girl from the county who is being treated for leukaemia.

Last Sunday afternoon hundreds of people descended on Hillview Sports Club to take part in a family fun day in memory of Sarah Dillon. Sarah passed away earlier this year and last week would have been her tenth birthday. To mark the occasion Ollie the Clown brought people together in her memory - and to raise funds for charity.

One of the people who will benefit from the amazing generosity of those who took part in the fun day will be six-year-old Bianca O’Brien from Cloneen, who is currently being treated for leukaemia.

Donations will also be made to Scoil Chormac in Cashel and Down Syndrome Ireland. The final tally for the day is expected to top €4,000.

“I never thought we would do so well,” said organiser of the day Olwyn Boyle, and Sarah’s mum Tricia agreed, saying “people were just fantastic.”

They are delighted to be able to present Bianca and her family with €1,000 from the funds raised on the day.

“The day was really, really good. It was a really community day,” Olwyn told The Nationalist. “Over 1,000 people passed through. I can’t believe the amount of people who turned up and worked for the day for nothing,” she added. “It was an unbelievable day.”

There was no cover charge for the event, people were asked to make a donation to the charities, and, Olwyn said, they never realised people would give so much money and would be so good to them.

“It was amazing,” Tricia said of the day she attended with Sarah’s dad Brian. “Olwyn did an amazing job and people were just fantastic. It was overwhelming. It caught us both by surprise that so many people knew our daughter and she had touched their hearts. They were all there for Sarah - instead of 40 people in the house for her birthday party we had 1,000 people in Hillview.” She thanked everyone involved for working so hard and helping out. “Brian and I would like to thank everybody from the bottom of our hearts. Sarah was an amazing child, she loved everybody and everybody loved her.”
