Waterford Institute of Technology offers free places in Computing and Finance Courses at Levels 7–9 under the Springboard scheme and according to Clonmel man Barry McMenamin, it has been a huge success.
“Coming from an Architectural background, I wanted a change of career and work towards a role in IT. Having family and other commitments, a part-time course was the best option for me and I was very lucky to find the Springboard Higher Diploma in Business Systems Analysis course,” says Barry who was funded under the Springboard programme at Waterford IT.
The Springboard programme provides free, part-time places in higher education for people who are unemployed or previously self-employed in order to help them get back to work. Springboard students may be able to keep income supports while completing their course.
Barry continues, “The course is intense at times, but with great support from the course lecturers, it is manageable. It has been hugely rewarding and given me a great platform from which to start my new career. One of the course benefits is how it prepares you to move up the ladder or set you up for your ideal job by fine tuning your interview skills and building your portfolio.
“The lecturers and support staff go to great lengths to organise interviews and job opportunities for the work experience module of the course. I have started my work experience as a Business Systems Analyst and have enjoyed every aspect of the role.”
