Trocaire says thanks to Tipperary

Eamonn Meehan, Executive Director, Trocaire has thanked the people of Co. Tipperary most sincerely for the support they have shown for Trocaire’s work throughout 2013, the 40th anniversary year.

He says - “In this time of increasing pressure on household incomes, the public in Co. Tipperary has shown remarkable generosity to, and solidarity with, the world’s poor by supporting our work through our Lenten campaign, Trad for Trocaire and our Christmas Gifts. People from Co. Tipperary also responded incredibly generously to help people suffering through the conflict in Syria and after Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

This support has allowed Trocaire to continue our critical programmes in over 20 countries worldwide that are helping communities to tackle poverty and injustice. In 2012, for example, Trocaire’s work directly benefitted the lives of over 2.7 million people. In Myanmar, support to Trocaire provided 20,000 civilian victims of the conflict with food and shelter while in Ethiopia, 25,950, families now have access to safe water. In Kenya 2,451 survivors of sexual violence received care thanks to Trocaire partners and in Guatemala 515 people have secured titles to their land, which means their families can look forward to a more certain future.

We are proud to work on behalf of the people of Co. Tipperary and we will continue to ensure that money entrusted to us is used effectively to help those who need it most. With your continued support we will keep working for a just world.
