Dear Irish Friends, I was so pleased to find information about Red Kelly on the Fethard website.
Dear Irish Friends
I was so pleased to find information about Red Kelly on the Fethard website.
However, I am writing to you wondering why the old Moyglass church was demolished, and as recently as 1989. Is this common in Ireland?
It seems such a strong draw for the diaspora to return to the church where their great great grandparents were married. Such a strong tourist attraction for Ireland. It’s a pity also and a lost opportunity the church where my some of my great grandparents were married in 1854 was also demolished not so long ago.
Here in Melbourne I can go to St Francis Church and be where Ellen Quinn and Red Kelly made their marriage vows. Two other sets of my Irish great grandparents were married in St Francis Church (then St Francis Cathedral). It is wonderful to be in two times in the one place as Seamus Heaney once said.
Thank you for all the wonderful work you do.
Wishing you all the blessings of Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
Sincerely, Mary Kenneally (email: firstname.lastname@example.org)
