Appeal to householders from Gardai to step up security
Gardai have appealed to householders in Clonmel, Carrick-on-Suir and surrounding communities to step up their home security and increase the vigilance of suspicious activity due to a spike in burglaries throughout the district since Christmas.
Det. Sgt. Seamus Maher of Clonmel Garda Station issued the warning in the wake of break-ins to eight premises in Clonmel and the Cloneen area over the past week.
He said since Christmas there has been a “substantial increase” in the number of burglaries throughout the Clonmel Garda District that includes Carrick-on-Suir, Fethard, Mullinahone and other rural communities.
Gardai have noticed that Thursday and Friday evenings have become popular times for break-ins to occur in the district, though he stressed that burglaries occurred during any time of the day.
Gda. Sgt. James Tierney urged householders not to keep quantities of cash in their homes as money along with jewellery and electrical goods were the key targets of burglars.
He outlined that a house was broken into on the Honeyview Estate in Clonmel on Monday, February 18, there was another break-in at Davitt Avenue, Clonmel on Tuesday, February 19 and another at Marlfield House estate on Thursday, February 21.
There were four burglaries at Toberaheena, Cooleens Close and Wheatfields, Clonmel and at Cloran, Cloneen last Friday, February 22 and a house was burgled at Willow Park, Clonmel last Saturday.
Sgt. Tierney appealed to anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the vicinity of these residential areas on the dates of these burglaries to contact Clonmel Garda Station at (052) 6122222 and assist gardai with their investigations.
