Call for Crime Prevention Officer for Tipperary
Clonmel councillor Joe Leahy has called on the Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter and the Garda Commissioner, Martin Callinan to formally appoint a Garda Crime Prevention Officer to service the Tipperary Garda Division.
“This position remains unfilled since the summer of 2011” said Cllr Leahy, who is of the firm belief that prevention tops the list of priorities in the fight against crime.
“The Tipperary Garda Division covers a vast area and a delay of eighteen months in the appointment of a Garda Crime Prevention Officer here is a matter of serious concern. The Crime Prevention Officer plays a very important role in the community - advising Businesses, Neighbourhood Watch, Community Alert and many different representative groups in all matters concerning the security and safety of their
premises, homes etc”.
Cllr Leahy is calling upon the Minister and the Garda Commissioner to fill this important vacancy without any further delay.
