Carrick family paint their house for Tipp

One family has shown their devotion to the Tipperary senior hurling team by painting the front of their house blue and yellow.

The Walsh family from No. 50 Ard Mhuire in Carrick-on-Suir has nailed its county colours to the mast in grand style ahead of the All-Ireland Hurling Final this Sunday.

Martina Walsh says this is the second year they have painted their terrace home for the All-Ireland. It's their way of showing their support for the Tipp team.

Their grand gesture of support that also includes flags and bunting has attracted a lot of comment from locals. "People have said to us that the house is lovely, that it is mad and so well done," Martina reports.

Martina's partner Pat painted the house using paint left over from decorating the bedroom of their 10 year-old son Padraig in the Tipp colours.

Padraig, who is a huge supporter of the Tipperary team, plays hurling with the Swan GAA Club. Martina says he hopes to emulate his older brother MJ and play for the Tipperary primary games team. MJ, aged 19, is now a senior player with the Swan Club.

The family won't be travelling to Croke Park on Sunday for the match but will instead watch it at a friend's house.

"We will paint the house back but will leave it for a while after the final even if Tipperary don't win because I am getting some work done on the front of the house."

While Martina is, of course, hopeful Tipperary will stop the Cats in their quest to win their fifth All-Ireland title in a row, she is fearful of being over confident about their chances. "I wouldn't like to jinx it," she laughs.
