Charity soccer match helps youth project
A charity soccer match at Rock Rovers AFC grounds at Deerpark has raised welcome funds for Carrick-on-Suir's Neighbourhood Youth Project.
And now a rematch is planned between the garda/firebrigade side and team of local youths who competed in the fundraiser. It's hoped to play it in October.
The garda/firebrigade team beat their opponents one nil in the game held at the Deerpark grounds on Sunday, August 29. It was poignantly the last game to be played at the Carrick-on-Suir soccer club, which has disbanded.
Joe Hayes, manager of match sponsors the Wurlitzer store in Carrick-on-Suir, said it was sad to see such a gorgeous playing grounds closing.
He thanked all who supported the match including Eugene Fleming, who presented them with a j500 cheque donation on behalf of Rock Rovers AFC. He estimated that the game raised between j1300 and j1500 for the Neighbourhood Youth Project that is a Foroige organisation.
After the match the teams and supporters retired to Cusack's Bar in Carrick-on-Suir for refreshments.
