Clonmel’s Conor O’Mahony fondly remembered in new book
The book Forever Young, which will be launched at the Main Guard in Clonmel on this Friday night, is dedicated to the memory of Conor O'Mahony, who died suddenly from Sudden Cardiac Death in 2006. All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to CRY, Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Four years previously Conor, son of Margaret and Brendan O’Mahony, had taken a year off and travelled around the world. He set off from Cork airport en route to the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aries, the first stop on a tour of South and Central America, Cuba, Australia and New Zealand.
As he travelled his diary was published each week in The Nationalist and the first part of the book is an account of Conor’s journey compiled from his diary and his return home.
The second part of Forever Young, which was compiled by his father Brendan, tells the story of the emotional pilgrimage that Brendan undertook almost two years ago when he completed the 30 kilometres pilgrimage walk – El Camino Ingles – from Ferrol in Galicia to Santiago de Compostela in north western Spain in Conor’s memory and to raise funds for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
The walk began on July 17th and arrived in Santiago on July 25th, exactly four years to the day since Conor died. He spoke Spanish and Portuguese fluently and his trip to Galicia in 2005 was his last holiday before he died.
The book will be launched at 8pm at the Main Guard in Clonmel on Friday night.
The entire proceeds from its sale will be donated to CRY Ireland, which was founded ten years ago by parents who experienced sudden and unexplained death within their families.
CRY is a self-supporting registered charity that doesn’t receive government funding of any kind. The organisation raises awareness of cardiac risk in the young and the proceeds from the book will support CRY’s Screening and Evaluation Centre at Tallaght Hospital, where families and individuals at risk can be evaluated, while counselling and support is also provided to families affected.
