Competition rewards ideas for getting the economy moving again

Local Fine Gael Councillor Michael Murphy is calling on the people of South Tipperary to register their ideas for turning the country around on the new website www.yourcountryyourcall.com,which is a competition created to ignite your imagination and reward your thinking.

According to Cllr. Murphy. "The goal of the website, which was launched by President Mary McAleese, is to pick two proposals, so big that when implemented could secure prosperity and jobs for Ireland. There will be two competition winners each who will receive j100,000 with a further j500,000 being made available to develop and implement the winning proposals."

Cllr. Murphy has registered his own idea. "It's very simple and involves the introduction of a new loyalty card with points being awarded for purchasing goods and services that support Irish jobs.

At the end of the year, for those in the PAYE sector, I suggest that points earned can be exchanged for some form of tax credit. Likewise, those on social welfare can exchange their points for cash at Christmas.

A new logo, perhaps called the 'Your Country Your Call Logo' would be developed and given to businesses that support Irish Jobs. Loyalty cards, by their very nature, encourage people to earn points by following a particular pattern such as shopping at the same location. Why not have a loyalty card that supports Irish jobs", he says.

"There is so much doom and gloom out there at the moment. At the same time, however, there are people out there with fantastic ideas, and so this is a great forum to express themselves. Wouldn't it be great if somebody from South Tipperary won this competition," concluded Cllr. Murphy.
