Dangerous town foothpaths are a cause of concern

While welcoming the general improvement in the condition of footpaths around the town, Cllr Maribel Wood has called on the council to prioritise the upgrading of the dangerous path on the north side of Cashel’s Main Street, an area frequented by many people using the public bus service and adversely referred to in this years tidy towns report.

In response to a motion tabled by her at the October meeting, the Town Clerk, Marie McGivern said that the footpath in question is mostly surfaced with large paving slabs which are considered to be of heritage value although they have suffered from traffic damage over the years. The replacement of this footpath was part of the proposal to upgrade all of Main Street footpaths as part of the Town Centre Strategy. However it will be considered when the 2013 Roadworks Programme is being prepared.

Meanwhile, Cllr Wood has welcomed the decision taken earlier this year to upgrade the path between the City Bar and the Bakehouse, work which is expected to commence shortly.
