Davins Club dances the night away

The annual Davins social on Friday night in the Carraig Hotel was attended by more than 200 people, with the South Board chairman and secretary as guests.

The night started with a beautiful meal, before the intermediate panel members were presented with their county medals. The Hurler of the Year award went to William O'Dwyer, Club Man of the Year to trainer Paul Tobin and Hurler of the Past to Seamus Kenny.

Seamus was a very popular winner and a large number of his family attended the social. Seamus was a Munster and All Ireland minor hurling winner in 1953 and a minor Munster winner in 1954. He also won seven hurling medals in1966-7.This included two souths, two county and one Munster club with the Davins. He also won a Munster and All Ireland intermediate hurling medal with Tipperary in 1966.

Music was by the Legends, followed by a disco with DJ Gerry Casey and a great night was had by all. Thanks goes to the Carraig Hotel for sponsoring the trophies and serving a lovely meal, to the band and DJ for great music and to the ticket sellers, especially Gerry and Joan McGrath who look after all the supporters.

Juveniles:The juvenile committee is at the moment organising this year's Cul camp. Forms for the camp will be sent out to parents in coming weeks and must be returned as soon as posssible. Again this year the camp will be run by the club and the county board, with top Tipperary coaches coaching the kids during the week and with Tipperary senior players also callng in.

Lotto; There was no winner of the jackpot this week. Next week's jackpot will be 11,500 euro. Six matched three numbers. Numbers drawn were 1-15-21-22.

Membership is now due for the year and supporters who have not yet joined should do so as soon as possible. Cost for the year is 30 euro for adults, 10 for minors and 5 for juveniles.

Training:Training for the senior panel is on Monday and Thursday nights in Davin Park at 7.30pm under new trainer Don Lyons. Eight players were called up to train with the intermediate county hurling panel in coming weeks. They are wished the best, as it is a great honour to play for a county team at any level.
