Drangan couple tied up in raid on thier home
A husband and wife who unsuspectingly answered a knock to their own front door were tied up and their home robbed last Wednesday.
The Drangan couple were at home at Cloughtaney when the ‘callers’ arrived at about 7.30pm. According to investigating gardai the wife answered the door to be confronted by two masked men wielding iron bars. She was pushed back into the house before both she and her husband were tied up. The two masked men then searched the house before making their getaway with a sum of money. They were in the house for about half an hour and left the couple tied up.
The couple, who are middle aged with grown up children, were left “very traumatised, very shaken” by the incident but thankfully did not suffer any physical injuries. They managed to free themselves shortly after the men left the home, but the raiders had disabled the telephone line to the house, to allow them more time to make their escape. The shocked couple made their way to a neighbour’s home from where they raised the alarm.
Investigating gardai are appealing for help from the public, to find the two masked men. They made their getaway in a vehicle, but it is not known in what direction or what the model of vehicle used was. Gardai would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery, or in the hours before and after the crime, who may have seen any suspicious behaviour.
