Fun day for Taekwon-do Juniors

On Saturday, February 2, 18 children from Clonmel and Tipperary Taekwon-do clubs attended the annual Junior Taekwon-do Fun-day in the Little Island Sports Center.

All students took part in some fun Taekwon-do sparring matches wearing body protectors. This event is run by Cork, Waterford and Tipperary clubs and it is one of the most popular Taekwon-do events, in Munster. This year was the largest yet with 163 participants all under 12 years of age.

These junior competitions help children to successfully manage feelings of anxiety and fear in order to achieve a good performance. These feelings are the same ones that bullies and other real life aggressors prey on. We are not born confident; it is a learned habit.

This event though is primarily a fun day, on the day four different giant bouncy castles and obstacle courses that made certain the emphasis was on fun. All the children attending received a participation trophy a great first achievement in Taekwon-do. This day is seen as a stepping stone for our students before serious competition.

Clonmel Taekwon-do club trains Tuesday and Friday in Hillview sports club; Tipperary Taekwon-do club trains on Wednesdays in the Marrion hall. Classes for all ages four to six years, seven to 12 years and 13 years to adult.
