Gardai investigate suspicious approach to children

Gardai have confirmed they are investigating a report of a suspicious approach to two children in the Fethard area, who were allegedly offered money to get into a black car last week.

The alleged incident occurred on Wednesday or Thursday of last week.

Gardai at Clonmel Garda Station stress that the reported incident hasn’t been substantiated but nevertheless they are investigating it and advising parents and children to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity.

Sgt. Tom O’Dwyer said a purported Garda emergency alert about a person or persons attempting to entice children into a black jeep by offering them money that appeared on Facebook over the past week did not come from the Garda Siochana.

He said they had received several calls from members of the public over the last few days, who had read the fake Garda alert on Facebook.
