Government investment in AIBP expected to lead to creation of 40 jobs

Government investment in the AIBP plant in Cahir, which is expected to lead to 40 new jobs, has been welcomed in the town and by local councillors and Oireachtas members.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen announced this week the Beef and Sheepmeat Investment Fund, which represents a total investment of €69 million in 15 projects around the country. It involves an investment in Cahir of €19.64 million.

This is a major boast for both the farming sector, the employees of the factory and the Cahir Area

The investment will enable AIBP to bring the total number of jobs for AIBP from 416 to 456 and "will enable the company to deliver higher value added products in a highly efficient manor specifically tailored to suit consumer requirements".

Local TD Deputy Mattie McGrath has welcomed the news, saying that the beef and sheepmeat processing industries are critically important indigenous industries and vital components of the agri-food sector.

He pointed out that this is the largest capital investment in upgrading our meat processing capacity in 20 years.

In congratulating AIBP, Cahir who were successful in their application to the highly competitive Investment Fund, Deputy McGrath stressed that investment on the scale of almost j170m would not happen without grant support. The intensive capital investment programmes outlined by the companies involved would not have materialised to the degree necessary to create real structural change and exploit added value opportunities.
