Hikers rescued from Galtees and Slievenamon
Two injured hikers were rescued from the Galtee Mountains and Slievenamon by the South East Mountain Rescue Team last weekend.
A woman, aged in her mid-50s suffered a lower leg injury after falling at the western end of the Galtee Mountains near Paradise Hill while out walking with several others last Saturday afternoon.
The emergency services were alerted to the accident at around 3pm.
Members of the South East Mountain Rescue team assisted by members of the Tramore Rescue Team brought the injured woman from the mountainside to a waiting HSE ambulance.
SEMRA received another call out at 10.51am on Sunday, this time to Slievenamon where a man in his mid-50s had fallen and sustained a suspected lower leg injury while out walking with other hikers.
After locating and assessing the injured man, the mountain rescuers sought assistance from the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre and a Rescue 117 helicopter was deployed to the scene.
The injured walker was airlifted from Slievenamon and taken to Waterford Regional Hospital.
