Local authority residents honoured for work done on their estates
South Tipperary County Council held its Estate Management Exhibition last week at the County Museum, Clonmel.
The evening was a great success with displays from the numerous Resident Associations and Community Houses transforming the gallery into a colourful and vibrant exhibition, illustrating the many estate enhancement and community events taking place around the county.
South Tipperary County Council supports residents within its Local Authority estates to form Resident Associations and work in partnership with the Council to develop and improve their estates. This in turn benefits the wider community.
There are over 80 Resident Associations from the five electoral areas within South Tipperary.
This includes the Fethard Area, (Fethard, Moyglass, Killenaule, Clooneen, Drangan, Mullinahone, Ballingarry, The Commons, Ballynonty, Ballysloe, Glengoole, Gortnahoe, Faugheen, Grangemockler) and Carrick-on-Suir, the Clonmel Area (Kilsheelan, Ballyclerihan, Lisronagh & Grange) and Clonmel Borough, the Cahir Area (Ardfinnan, Newcastle, Clogheen, Ballyporeen, Burncourt) and Cahir Town, the Tipperary Area (Emly, Lattin, Kilross, Lisvernane, Bansha, Golden, Donohill, Annacarty, Cappawhite) and Tipperary Town, the Cashel Area (Dundrum, Boherlahan & Holycross) and Cashel Town.
A presentation was given by the Council’s Community Liaison Officers, who spoke about the various excursions, workshops and schemes that are run throughout the year, encouraging residents to get involved and which enable them to learn skills which can be brought back to their own communities.
Retired Garda Peter Butler gave a detailed presentation on the benefits of Neighbourhood Watch Schemes and Community Alert and Clonmel Community Policing Unit were also on hand during the evening to meet with residents.
Cathaoirleach John Crosse commended the Resident Groups on all their hard work and remarked on how in today’s economic climate, why it is so important that we all pull together and ensure community spirit stays alive.
He congratulated everybody on their positivity, motivation and determination and wished them all the best with their on-going projects and plans for the future.
An Awards Ceremony followed with each Resident Group receiving a certificate of achievement from Cllr Crosse to give recognition and thanks on behalf of the County Council for all their efforts.
The evening finished on a high with entertainment, kindly organised by the Newcastle Community House, who arranged for musicians and dancers to perform traditional Irish dance, which had everybody clapping and toe-tapping their way home.
