‘Miracle’ that Clonmel brothers survived rally crash

It is a miracle that two Clonmel brothers who were seriously injured in a crash at the Cavan Rally, a few weeks ago, are still alive, according to their father.

Michael Looby, whose sons Michael and John were very badly injured in an accident that killed two of their fellow spectators on May 27, spoke to The Nationalist this week and told just how lucky his sons are.

The two men suffered devastating bone injuries that had surgeons commenting how it was the worst they had ever seen. The brothers are facing months of operations and possibly years of medical treatment and rehabilitation.

But Michael senior is glad his sons are alive and describes their survival as a miracle, in an interview with The Nationalist this week.

He speaks about his sons’ injuries and his gratitude to the local community who had been such a great support to the Looby family.

This week the community have launched a fund raising initiative to help Michael and John in the years of treatment and rehabilitation to come. Moyle Rovers GAA club are holding a benefit night on July 7, in the Halfway Bar, Rathronon. Tickets are E10 and can be bought form Michael Boland on (087)2201735.
