Panto cast begins rehearsals

The cast has been chosen for Carrick-on-Suir Musical Society's new panto "Jack and the Beanstalk" written by the late Dick Meany.

Ray Nolan will play the title role of Jack and Triona O'Callaghan will be Jill. Fergus Power fills the role of the panto dame called Ma and supporting roles will be performed by Seamus Power, Audie Murphy, Dennis Barry, Deckie Robinson, Siobhan McCarthy, Louise Mulchahy and Chris Hanlong.

There is also a very large chorus in place and overall there will be will almost 90 performers on stage come show time.

Director Padraig Sheehan heads the production team that includes Catriona O'Dwyer as musical director and chorus mistress, Sarah Layman as choreographer, Fergus Power as assistant director and Ger Dunphy on set design.

Rehearsals have been going well so far and everyone is enjoying themselves.

The panto runs from October 17 to 24 with nightly performances from Monday to Saturday and matinees on both Sundays.

While preparations for the panto kick off the Children's Performing Arts Academy returned for its third season last week. Approximately 84 children are enrolled and many are preparing for Jack and the Beanstalk.

Meanwhile, the Musical Society is preparing to host a tribute concert to the late Dick Meany in the Strand Theatre on November 7.
