The axe has finally fallen on Clonmel's Kickham Barracks with a cabinet decision on Tuesday to close the facility.

The axe has finally fallen on Clonmel's Kickham Barracks with a cabinet decision on Tuesday to close the facility.

Kickham Barracks in Clonmel is set to close next month after 350 years in the town. The closure will be a milestone in the history of the county town and The Nationalist will mark the occasion with a special Souvenir Supplement.

Army personnel based in Clonmel have a proud record of service both at home and overseas.

We are looking for old photographs of people and events associated with the barracks - social occasions, passing out parades, family events, troops heading off or returning from overseas duties - in fact anything at all that reflects the impact of Kickham Barracks in Clonmel.

If you have any such photographs we would be delighted to hear from you. It would be great if there were also captions with them but it’s not a requirement.

Photographs can be dropped into our office in Queen Street, Clonmel or else emailed to mheverin@nationalist.ie

Hard copies left into us will be scanned, kept safely and returned to the owners.

So get checking those old albums and files so we can give Kickham Barracks the send-off it deserves.
