Planning applications fell by 41% last year
The number of new development projects seeking planning permission in Carrick-on-Suir last year was just 15 per cent of what it was four years ago.
And the Town Council is expecting a further fall to take place in planning applications this year as the slump in the property market continues.
The Council dealt with just 13 planning applications in 2012, which was a dramatic 41 per cent drop on the 22 applications submitted the previous year.
The local authority had originally estimated that it would earn a total of €6000 in revenue from planning applications, but drop in applications meant the actual income was just half of that.
The Council’s Budget for 2013 ancipates a further €500 drop in planning application revenue to €2500.
In contrast, the council dealt with 85 planning applications in 2008, the year before property prices crashed and the recession hit the country.
