Tom Hayes TD stresses important role that post office network can play
The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications is inviting written submissions from interested groups or individuals in relation to the future of the Post Office network. The closing date for receipt of submissions is this Friday, October 19 at 5pm.
The Committee is interested in learning about the effects closure and changes in the role of post offices would have on communities and on individuals throughout the country and any practical initiatives that might sustain the post office network.
The Committee will consider these written submissions and may decide to invite a number of contributors to public hearings should it feel that this is necessary.
Chairman of the Committee, South Tipperary Tom Hayes TD says: “The post office is deeply rooted in communities across the country and, by inviting public submissions, Committee Members hope to hear from a wide range of individuals and groups on how the network can best be sustained.
“The Post Office network, with its unrivalled reach across the nation, has many competitive advantages which could lead to an expansion in the products and services it provides.
“We look forward to considering any practical initiatives from the public which might enhance the network’s viability in both urban and rural communities.
“On considering the submissions, the Committee will prepare a report for the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources on how best to sustain the network.”
