Traffic wardens can now tackle litter problems
Following several months of campaigning, Cllr Joe Leahy is delighted with the impending decision by Clonmel Borough Council to extend the powers of the local Traffic Wardens to include responding to the issue of litter on our streets.
“Litter is a big problem in our towns in general. Clonmel is no different from any other town in Ireland where pedestrians are constantly having to deal with dog fouling and general littering on our streets and footpaths.
The Traffic Wardens are ideally placed to help the Council deal with this problem,- being active and visible around the streets of our town on a daily basis” said Cllr Leahy.
He strongly believes that this issue needs to be tackled vigorously if Clonmel is to take the next step in attempting to win the national Tidy Towns competition.
In addition, in this year of The Gathering, it is vital that every effort is made to have Clonmel looking at its best and offering a clean and friendly welcome to all visitors.
Cllr Leahy hopes that the imminent extension of powers to the Traffic Wardens, whereby they can issue on-the-spot fines for littering, will work in the main as a deterrent and encourage people to keep Clonmel streets clean.
