Under Starter’s Orders for Aintree Draw at Cashel Community School
CCS Parents Association
The Parents’ Association of Cashel Community School is running their annual Grand National Sweepstake Draw. All proceeds from the draw are in aid of the book rental scheme. Each family in the school received a card for the draw and parents are asked to make every effort to sell the card.
There are generous prizes including a draw for an iPod Touch for the sellers of a full card. The draw will take place in the school on Friday, April 5, and all cards must be returned to the school before Tuesday, March 19.
Each year the Parents’ Association at Cashel Community School provides a great service to the school by managing the school book rental scheme for almost 800 students. The principal source of funding for this service is the annual draw run on the Aintree Grand National. The Book Rental Scheme is of enormous financial benefit to students, parents and the school. The Minister for Education & Skills launched a campaign recently to encourage schools to set up book rental schemes. However, through the vision and hard work of the Parents’ Association in Cashel Community School, parents in Cashel are fortunate to be benefitting from an efficient book rental scheme for almost 19 years.
Your support for the draw and for the book rental scheme will be greatly appreciated.
Pieta House Fundraisers
On two days during the spring mid-term, a team of Fifth Year students bag packed at Tesco Cashel in aid of Pieta House. Due to the generosity of the store’s customers, a total of €1,288.16 was raised for this most worthy cause. Many thanks to all who contributed.
Mr & Mrs!
The school’s sports hall was aglow with lights and youthful zest on last Friday night when the student council staged its “Mr. & Mrs” extravaganza, also in aid of Pieta House. The brave participants who took to the stage are to be commended. This light-hearted event brought in €1,004 in support of Pieta House which depends so greatly on voluntary donations.
Concern Fast Fund
Quite a number of CCS students took part in the school’s annual pre-Christmas fast for `Concern.’ They raised €3,900 by their efforts. Well done to all who undertook this fast and, once again, thanks to all who sponsored the students and contributed to the funds that will go directly to assisting some of the poorest people in the world.
T.Y. Work Experience
Since mid-term, the seventy T.Y. students have spent two weeks in many and varied locations engaging in work experience. They returned to school on this past Monday much the wiser from their dealings with employers, managers, staff members and – in many instances – customers.
There is an old saying that “going through the people would educate you.” The T.Y. students have discovered the truth of this remark and have imbibed much educationally from their placements.
The school wishes to acknowledge the support of all business people and employers who welcomed these students to their premises. Furthermore, the school wishes to thank these sponsors for the kindness and tutoring extended to the students.
