Woman trapped in car about to go on fire
Gardai investigating a car accident near Bansha are seeking help from any witnesses.
A woman from the Ardfinnan area was seriously injured in a single car accident on the Clonmel to Fethard Road at Rathronan last weekend.
The crash occurred close to the Half Way Pub shortly after 7pm last Friday and the woman, aged in her early 30s, was trapped inside the vehicle, which began to go on fire.
Four gardai helped by members of the public who arrived on the scene prevented the crashed car from going up in flames before fire units from Clonmel and Cahir and the ambulance arrived on the scene.
They used fire extinguishers and buckets of water from the Half Way House to prevent the smoking vehicle from igniting, he said.
Fire fighters had to cut the trapped motorist from the car and she was rushed to South Tipperary General Hospital.
South Tipperary Fire Chief Tadhg O’Driscoll and Gda. Tom O’Dwyer paid tribute to the gardai and members of the public, who helped keep the car fire at bay until the fire service arrived.
Sgt. O’Dwyer said their action helped to save the woman’s life.
