Lowry welcomes investment plan for LIT Tipperary

Deputy Michael Lowry has today welcomed the announcement that a planned €200 million investment will be made to LIT Limerick and Tipperary campuses over the coming number of years as part of LIT’s “Campus Masterplan 2030”.

The Independent T.D. for North Tipperary said that these funds will go towards the development and refurbishment of LIT’s existing four campuses, two of which are located in Tipperary. Additionally significant investment will be made in student villages, an integrated transport system and other facilities.

Deputy Lowry explained: “This planned €200 million investment sets out a radical development plan for the college up until 2030. Already over €20 million of investment has been fully secured which will cover advancements in the College over the coming four years.

“I welcome this overall master plan for the educational development and physical refurbishment of LIT and the Thurles and Clonmel campus. It is a positive and progressive plan. Both our Tipperary Campus were earmarked at one stage for closure. The future of Thurles and Clonmel was safeguarded by the strategic alliance with LIT. Apart from some personnel problems the new partnership has worked efficiently maintaining access for Tipperary students to third level education in their own county.”
