New Donaldson plan for Tidy Towns

Tidy Towns had a meeting with Frank Donaldson Consultancy about their new plan and there will be a lot of work involved in it but a lot of it will be up to individuals as it will be outside the remit of the Tidy Towns.

Mr Donaldson did comment that since he did the last plan, three years ago, Cahir has come on in leaps and bounds with an increase of twice the national average every year. He commented about the amount of buildings that have painted and have improved the look of their premises and he hopes that this will continue. The one area he did suggest that we could make progress was in was general tidiness, but we hope that these areas will be addressed in the coming year with plans for a new Super Valu car park to enhance the area on the bridge.

Mr Donaldson hopes to have a draft plan available fin two weeks and Tidy Towns will discuss further from there.

He has also revisited the subject of a Town Square with revised parking arrangements, his ideas suggest no car park spaces will be lost, but again, this is an area outside of Tidy Towns and instead a matter for the local council, business and traders. He said that the benefits to the town would be huge and footfall on the streets would increase and as a town we should be open minded about change.

The Cahir Tidy Towns Group has been busy painting their new premises in Market Yard this week as well as planting some remaining beds.

The Townspark Residents have been busy clearing and shredding the overgrown evergreens on the entrance to Duneske and this will hopefully open up the area and cut out the litter problem in the area. It’s great to see that somebody is looking after litter picking in this area and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The group have some more beds to tackle in the area and aim to get them done before the dark nights kick in.

Meanwhile, Tidy Towns will stick to their work and meet as normal on Wednesday evening for litter picking at 7pm. A provisional date of Friday, October 5, has been announced as our Local Awards Night and it is hoped that we may also be able to launch a new town plan on the same night.
