New Tidy Towns plan nears completion
Cahir tidy towns continued to work this week on the beds and have taken some geraniums out and hope to store for the winter.
The new three-year plan in near completion and they hope to have a launch night in early November where everyone can see what is in store.
In a follow up to last week’s report on the what the adjudicators said on the Built Environment here is the remainder: “The co-op looks well and is well planted and maintained.
“The premises of Gleeson Tyres looks well, some plants in the bed would help. Morrison Car Sales was well presented.
“The stone houses on the Mitchelstown Road are well presented. Carrigeen Castle is very inviting and was litter free.
“The gable and adjoining buildings at the corner of Barrack Street on the Cashel Road side needs attention.
“The Phoenix pub is closed down but is well painted. The entrance to Cahir Park Lodge is very impressive with the stone wall and mature trees.
“The old Abbey building is undergoing restoration, the sign needs cleaning and the area outside needs to be tidied.
“In Abbey Street buildings looked fine and there was some litter evident and the litter bin needs painting.
“The Colaiste with the established Hornbeam were impressive. Railway House was tidy. The old Cemetery on the Clonmel Road looked well as did the Garda Station and its planting.
“The houses on Market Street were weed free and well maintained. On Convent Road the school entrance look well and the dead hedge needs attention and is unlikely to recover.
“The convent is a well preserved building and a landmark feature greatly enhanced by mature trees and on adjudication day the field of buttercups added to the scene.
“Other building complexes that looked well included St Marys RC church and cemetery and the Cahir Day Care Centre.
“Cahir Park AFC has an imposing entrance planted with Berberis. There are impressive stone walls on both sides of the road and there is a need to control weeds at the wall base.”
On a sadder note around the town it has been reported that a motorist travelling with undue care killed a white goose and four ducks recently in the Castle Car Park.
This may have been an accident and if it was then an effort to report the incident or replace the birds should have been made.
However, what is done is done and we are asking people to look out for the birds that give so many kids great pleasure feeding them during the year to be vigilant to reckless driving in the area and report same to the authorities.
