Willie was our honorary life president and was always a most popular man with our own Club members as well as any opponents we played over the years.

He moved to Ballingeary over 50 years ago from his beloved Aherlow and he threw himself wholeheartedly into the local Club alongside his great friend John O’Donnell.

Willie served as Chairman, committee member, team manager and selector with various teams over the years. He had a wonderful way with people, and if there was ever a difference of opinion, he was the man to smooth the waters. He would be seen talking and having a laugh with opponents after a game, no matter how tough the match.

Willie will be sorely missed by his wife Jenny, sons Philly and Johnny, daughters Ita, Aine, Sineád and Carmel, brother Patie, relatives, neighbours and friends. The parish league hurling final was postponed to next Saturday as a mark of respect.
