Carrick Road Runners
There was a field of over 400 athletes for the Boston Scientific Half-Marathon in Clonmel on Sunday last and four Carrick AC members took on the challenge. Andrew Downey is showing good form as he prepares for the Dublin City Marathon in October and he was our first finisher in 1:26:46. Michael O’Connell and Seamus Ward are also experienced marathon runners and it would be no surprise to see them on the start line in Dublin also. Michael finished in a time of 1:27:44 while Seamus came home in 1:38:09. Geraldine Houlihan was our only lady representative in Clonmel and she wil be well pleased with her finishing time of 2:13:49. Well done to all our runners.
Some of our club members have been very busy of late as the summer road race season begins to wind down. At the Ballymacarbry 5 mile race, Tom Doherty and Ger Houlihan clocked times of 33:24 and 42:36 respectively. The final race of the summer series organised by West Waterford AC was the Ardmore 5 and here Tom and Ger were timed at 33:24 and 42:38. They were joined by Brendan Cronin who ran a fast time of 31:02 and was the first O/50 finisher.
At the Eilis Ni hAodha Memorial race in Ballyduff, Gordon Collins finished in a time of 35:45 and Ger Houlihan was timed at 42:55.
