The second day of the County Juvenile Cross Country Championships took place on Donal Hayes’s land at the Turnpike where the underfoot conditions were very good despite the cold and inclement weather. The Club was represented in 10 of the 12 Juvenile races which was great to see; hopefully we can build on that and have teams in all age groups as the team competition in Cross Country is a great event. We got the day off to a flyer when Gretta Nugent opened her Cross Country season with a great performance in the Girls under 9 race. In the Men’s race it was great to see the Club entering two teams. Right from the start both Kevin and William Maunsell were in the leading group. Then on the 2nd lap Kevin moved into 2nd place and disputed the lead with Kevin Moore for most of the trip. Then on the final run in Kevin was edged out of the Gold medal. This was Kevin’s first outing over the grass and on this performance he is sure to improve as the season progresses. William also ran well when finishing 4th.
